Educating for a global future – give your child the German advantage
The Deutsche Schule Durban is an independent co-educational German
primary school that offers a holistic education for children between
the ages of 3 and 13, from Kindergarten to Grade 7. Established in
1971, the DSD is affiliated with the Independent Schools Association
of Southern Africa (ISASA).
In an increasingly globalised world, there are more and more families
choosing to give their child the benefit of German as an additional
language. Pupils from homes where no German is spoken are very welcome
but have to join in Kindergarten so that they have a firm grasp of the
language by the time they enter Grade R.
Our teaching is based on the South African and German curricula and
aims to develop the children holistically, instilling positive values.
From Kindergarten onward, all children have regular sports and music
lessons and participate in fun events throughout the year such as
Fasching (carnival) and Laternenfest (lantern festival).
At present there are approximately 150 pupils in our school and the
school has developed into a well-known educational institution in the
Durban area, with top local high schools eager to recruit its grade 7
school leavers.
